During this time, I started to get so excited about the Allen that I kind of wished I hadn't purchased the Gremlin.
I decided to pull the trigger and buy it too and pass it along if it wasn't for me. Well, one day later, a great deal on a used Gremlin popped up. You know, because a fire-breathing 35W monster is perfect for my current situation! And while I waited, I found a great deal on an Allen Encore head and bought it. The price for a new one was a bit tough for me to justify though, so I waited to find a deal on a used one. Something smaller with both Blackface and Tweed channels and the attenuator sounded perfect. I once owned a Sky King and it was an amazing amp. But then I started reading about the Tone King Gremlin, and it caught my attention. I traded it for something else at some point, but it quickly came into mind for the new amp that I would surely "need".
I have owned a Gries 5 in the past and absolutely loved it. Except, once I'm formally shopping, all reason goes out the window. New baby in the house, well, I guess I'm going to need a nice low-powered amp! Or so the thought went. My 2nd youngest is 6, and I was well past the stage of having to play quietly. Recently, it was the birth of my third child. Usually I can overcome the thought, but not always. It takes very little for me to convince myself that I need some new piece of gear.
